Family Preparedness from Homeland Security

"September is National Preparedness Month, offering our Department an opportunity to talk to the American people about the importance of becoming better prepared for-and more resilient to-emergencies of all kinds.  By being informed and planning ahead, we can minimize the threats of an emergency.

There are three simple steps that you can take now to prepare your family for emergencies: (1) Put together an emergency supply kit; (2) Make a family emergency plan;  and (3) Get informed about the types of emergencies that could take place in your community and the best ways to respond.

I invite you to visit our website for more information about these steps and to sign up for regular e-mail updates from the Department of Homeland Security that include resources about how you can strengthen your family's security: www.dhs.gov/families

National preparedness is a shared responsability.  Every single individual-including you and me-has an important role to play in keeping our country, our communities, and our families secure."
