State Bar of Texas Disaster Hotline

Free disaster legal services provided by volunteers from across Texas to counsel residents of the 29 counties designated as part of the Federal Disaster Declaration due to Ike.

Lone Star Legal Aid

For free legal assistance to low-income families, please call 800-733-8394.

                

Houston Bar Association

The Houston Bar Association is providing daily Hurricane Ike LegalLine, from 3 pm to 5 pm, Monday through Friday through October 10th.  Volunteer attorneys will take calls from the public and answer their legal questions related to the storm. The number to call is 713-759-1133 or toll-free, 866-959-1133.

 

Disaster Relief Legal Hotline

Call 1-800-622-2520 or 512-477-3950 for legal assistance for low-income persons with disaster-related legal problems in a variety of areas: 

·                              Problems obtaining FEMA and other disaster related public benefits such as food stamps, cash assistance payments and unemployment benefits.

·                              Consumer issues such as property, auto and life insurance claims and consumer price gouging.

·                              Shelter issues including rent and lease liability and repair obligations for damaged housing.

·                              Persons needing direct aid should first seek help by dialing 2-1-1.  Legal help through the Disaster Legal is intended for persons who are unable to get help or are improperly denied services.
