The Montgomery County Food Bank is a non-profit center for food distribution. We procure donated surplus food and transfer it in usable quantities to over 36 non-profit agencies in Montgomery County, Texas. Member agencies are located in Montgomery County, Texas, an area that covers 1,044 square miles. Approximately 293,000 people live in this service area. Out of those persons, about 27,000 people (9% of the population) in the Food Bank's service area live below the poverty level. More than 39% served by the pantries are children under the age of 18. Since we were founded in 1985, 4-1/2 million pounds of food have been distributed. Approximately 875,000 pounds of food/grocery products were distributed in 2004. Agency food pantries distribute food to more than 12,000 individuals per month. |
